This article discusses how soldiers in the Middle East are getting depressed (Chapter 12, Psychological Disorders) and being treated with various drugs(Chapter 13, Treatment of Psychological Disorders ). The article states that 12% of troops in Iraq, and 17% of troops in Afghanistan are on anti-depressants or sleeping pills to help them cope. The article also discusses how soldiers are suffering from prolonged exposure to intense stress ( Chapter 10, Health, Stress, and Coping), sleep deprivation (Chapter 4, Consciousness ), and Posttraumatic Stress Disorder PTSD ( Chapter 10, Health, Stress, and Coping).
